DA INNA CIRCLE

John Coltrane Centennial Celebration-thecoltranehome.org
This past Wednesday 9/23/26 marked the centennial of composer, instrumentalist, primary 20th century musical innovator and Long Island native John Coltrane’s 100th birthday. Here at the Melting World we are celebrating by playing his later material from 1965-1966 featuring music from his second quartet with his wife Alice on piano, Rashid Ali on Drums, Jimmy Garrison on bass and Pharoah Sanders augmenting the quartet on tenor saxophone.
In Melting World style we will focus on their spiritual quest into uncompromising improvisational long form renditions of past popular compositions and more.
The beginning of our show will feature new music from Gary Lucas & Lukas Ligeti, Captain Beefheart and Frank Zappa’s 2025 archival release from 1974.
The Deep Drift segment will go to India with a sitar raga from Usted Vilayat Khan.
Only here Saturday night at Midnight (Sunday 12-5am) at the place where unique sounds begin WUSB 90.1 FM and wusb.fm.
