Lots of new releases on today's program along with a visit from Bill Herman of Paradiddle Records to announce a benefit concert at The University Cafe on Saturday, April 5th at 8 P.M. "Keep Me In Your Heart: A Long Island Musicians' Tribute to Warren Zevon" will feature a host of area musicians sharing interpretations of well-known and lesser-known Zevon songs. The concert will benefit WUSB-FM and help with the expenses associated with repairing our damaged transmitter. Recent storms have had their impact on the transmitter and as a consequence, our signal has been reduced dramatically. It is unlikely the University will assist us with this cost so we need to raise these funds by ourselves. Hopefully, our listeners will come to our rescue.

Today's program featured songs associated with Pete Seeger. We also played new music from Matt Anderson and Dr.Dog, and a previously-unreleased track from Tom Russell.

An in-studio performance and conversation with Butchers Blind, a Long Island - based band, was part of today's program. We also highlighted new releases from Rosanne Cash, Fred Eaglesmith and Roosevelt Dime, and in music marked tomorrow's national observance of the life and work of Martin Luther King Jr.

Today's program noted the recent passings of Phil Everly and Sarah Elizabeth Campbell, played some tracks from some of the nominees for BBC Radio 2 Folk Albums of the year, featured tracks from new albums by Jack Williams, Guy Clark, Billie Joe Armstrong and Norah Jones, and concluded with an in-studio visit from blues great, Guy Davis.

Today's "turning of the year" edition of Sunday Street was devoted to some of the outstanding releases of the past year. We could have easily played several hours more but touched on as many of them as we could during the program. We'll be likely to play some more of them on next Sunday's program. Steve Matteo, who writes about popular music for Long Island Pulse, joined us to discuss the past year in music and share a number of his favorites. Today's program also looked towards 2014 with a fine new release from Tim Grimm slated to appear this week.
