The Winter Solstice edition

Today's program's theme was "Mostly Mose," a celebration of the career of Mose Allison, the bluesman and jazz musician who left us this past Tuesday at age 89. In addition to this we also played a set of songs for Thanksgiving and some songs by Leon Russell, another recent loss in the music world.

Much of today's program was spent listening to the music of Leonard Cohen, who passed away earlier this week.

Today's program featured an in-studio visit from Beaucoup Blue. We also spoke by phone with Jim Faith, founding member of the Long Island Music Hall of Fame, about LIMHOF's upcoming induction ceremony.

This week's edition of Sunday Street on WUSB, 90.1 fm and wusb.fm, featured several tracks from a soon-to-be-released album from Richard Shindell. We also shared some songs from Canada's The Tragically Hip, whose over thirty year career culminated in a brief tour ending with a nation-wide broadcast last Saturday evening. (Their frontman, Gord Downie, was recently diagnosed with terminal brain cancer.) Chris J. Connolly visited with us in the studio as he sets forth to record his second album and played some songs from it. And we remembered harmonica virtuoso, Toots Thielemans, who passed away on Monday at age 94.

A conversation with John Hall, founding member of Orleans and a two-term Congressman from New York, was featured on today's program.

Bluesman Toby Walker joined us in the studio during this program.

Today's program featured a conversation with Garnet Rogers, singer/songwriter from Canada, centering on his book, Night Drive

Today’s program highlighted some events in the upcoming Stony Brook Film Festival including an interview with Leslie McCleave, director of the documentary, "The Blind Boys of Alabama: How Sweet The Sound" and a conversation with Karen Levitov, Director of the Zuccaire Gallery, where the exhibition "On The Record: Album Cover Art" will be on view during the festival.

We also gave away some tickets to the Stony Brook Film Festival and to the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival to lucky listeners.

Our music mix featured some songs related to motion pictures as well as a set of songs noting Donald Trump's upcoming nomination as the Republican candidate for President of the United States. New releases included albums by Zoe Lewis, Natalia Zukerman, a release of an alternate recording of John Gorka's first album and a multi-artist recording celebrating Joan Baez’ 75th Birthday.
