This weekend, on October 11, Melting World celebrates the 90th birthday of Steve Reich, one of the most influential composers of the modern era.

From tape-loop phasing and hypnotic repetition to interlocking rhythms and shifting patterns, Reich helped redefine classical music and shape the sound of Minimalism. We’ll trace that journey through Music for 18 Musicians, Tehillim, Electric Counterpoint, Drumming, The Desert Music and more.

We’ll also hear how Reich’s ideas filtered into progressive and art rock of the ’70s and early ’80s.

Join us Saturday into Sunday (10/11) morning, midnight–5 a.m., for five hours of pulse, repetition and musical transformation.
