Beth Watson, associate professor in the Department of Ecology & Evolution in the at Stony Brook University, looks at what rising seas means for all of us — whether it's keeping water out of the basement or managed retreat. Lesley Thorne, associate professor in the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences, wants to protect whales from not just climate change but more immediate threats, like fishing entanglements and vessel collisions.
