Conor Rooney | DJ MascisBy Mike Dokus Conor, otherwise known as DJ Mascis, has been a part of WUSB for years; he shared that it has provided a place for him to meet people and enjoy his time on campus. “I transferred into Stony Brook University in the spring of 2016 in much the same way as many other transfer students: I didn’t know anyone. Those first few weeks on campus mimicked the daily routine of many other commuter student’s, that of going to class and going home. Before class one afternoon, I walked up to the second floor of the old Union to explore the last blank spot on my mental map of Stony Brook. One of the doors that I came across was plastered with stickers and posters, and on the other side of the door was the student office of WUSB. I signed up to be a DJ that day." Conor recalls many times when he would talk on his show or his friends shows about anything and everything and the sense of freedom it gave him. He loved taking calls from listeners and experiencing the personalities of the fans and supporters of WUSB. Conor still remains friends with many of the people he originally met, thanks to working at the radio station, and loves the community WUSB creates. One of his favorite memories comes from moving out of the old union building to our current location above west side dining. He recalled DJs and volunteers donating their time to help an organization just because of how much they loved it and wanted it to succeed. Conor Rooney is graduating from Stony Brook in Multidisciplinary Studies. From everyone at WUSB, we wish Conor luck with wherever the wind takes him! |
