The Best of Open Mic Night comes to the Grounds and Sounds Cafe in Stony Brook on Friday, January 9, 2009. Featuring the Music of Hank Stone, Becca Hasselbrook and Patrick O'Rourke, the Best of Open Mic promises to be a special evening.
Hank Stone moved his family to Long Island in the 80's, and once the kids were grown, strapped his guitar on. Hank is a classic "late bloomer"... finally finding his stride in middle age, at the peak of his songwriting and performance skills. A frequent guest of Open Mic at the Grounds and Sounds Cafe, we're happy to welcome him back for this "Best of" night.
Becca Hasselbrook is a singer,-songwriter and pianist. Becca has always had a knack for melody, but didn't begin to formally write songs until high school. It was at that time that Becca decided to pursue a career in music and began to write and record actively. After completing a degree in Music Therapy from Montclair State University, Becca moved to New York City, where she performs regularly.
Patrick O'Rourke's new CD of original music features fingerstyle guitar and a transcendent voice. Ranging from the meditative "Shar'Shuun" (from which the CD title is taken) to the hauntingly subtle "Linda Hunter" to the passionate eros of "Opened Our Hearts to Truth". We welcome Patrick back to the Grounds and Sounds Cafe.
