DESTINIES PROMO For 1/5/24 (Destinies reviews the films of 2023)

From Howard Margolin:

This week, the Destinies Film Review Team assembles live for their 39th annual look back at the year in movies.

Tune in Friday night at 11:15, as hosts Howard Margolin, Audrey Dettmering, Dave Campfield, and Timothy Gillespie, and possibly some special guests from WUSB, each list their five favorite and one least favorite science fiction, fantasy, adventure, horror, super-hero, and genre-adjacent films of 2023.

Of the 116 movies up for consideration, will there be a consensus? Despite the trend towards "super-hero fatigue" at the box office in 2023, will any comic book adaptations make the best lists? What is considered "genre-adjacent" anyway? And, what movies are the team looking forward to most in 2024?

Find out on Friday, January 5th, at 11:15 PM, for the year-in-film review, the latest installment of one of the longest-running traditions on Destinies-The Voice of Science Fiction, on WUSB since 1983.

Destinies Reviews Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom

Poster image of Aquaman and the Lost Kindgom

From Howard Margolin:

Last week, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom opened in theaters, bringing an end to the saga of the DC Extended Universe.

This week, the Destinies Film Review Team swims in for a live discussion of the movie.

Tune in Friday night, at 11:15 PM, and find out how the second outing for the King of Atlantis stacks up, not only against his first solo adventure, from 2018, but compared to the other three DC movies that were released this year.

Is there significant character development in this movie, and if so, for whom?

How does the story address the real-world issue of climate change, something no other comic book movie has addressed?

If this is Jason Momoa's last turn as Aquaman, might he make a better Lobo in the new DCU?

And, what is this movie worth on the Famous Destinies Zero to Nine Dollars Rating Scale?

Find out on Friday, December 29th, at 11:15 PM, when hosts Howard Margolin, Audrey Dettmering, Dave Campfield, and Timothy Gillespie assemble to review Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom on Destinies-The Voice of Science Fiction.

Tune in Friday night, and travel back to Ace Comic Con Long Island, on December 10th, 2017, for part two of a panel with the cast of Justice League.

In front of a capacity crowd at the Nassau Coliseum, Jason Momoa, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, and Ray Fisher discuss their feelings about a potential team-up or battle with Marvel's Avengers, what they wanted to bring to their portrayals of the iconic DC heroes and how they wanted to develop them in future films, and their feelings about meeting the fans, especially children.

Plus, Patrick Thomas' "Dear Cthulhu" answers a letter from a young man who is too traumatized to drive a car.

Friday, December 22nd, at 11:30 PM.

Hosted by Howard Margolin with Patrick Thomas.

From Ed Roller:

As part of Radiothon’s Caribbean marathon, we present a journey through Dub Reggae, a bass heavy effects laden electronic sub genre of Jamaican roots music mixed in the studios by reggae musicians, producers and engineers.

Originally created as b-sides for singles, DJs started to include them in their mixes with great success while playing clubs.

We'll be tracing the roots of dub music back to its originators: King Tubby, The Prophets, The Aggravators, Lee “Scratch” Perry & The Upsetters. Our journey will also highlight contemporary dub master Ryan Moore of Twilight Circus Dub Sound System and his collaborations with artists like Michael Rose, Ranking Joe, Big Youth, and others

We will also check out the Cosmic Hour Dub Techno and Ambient Dub from Porter Ricks, Varient and Martin Stürtzer.

It will be a special mind altering edition of the Melting World you can groove to bringing the good vibes this Saturday at midnight (Sunday 12:00am).
