Our featured guest is Yasser Alwan who was on our program live from Cairo last summer to report on the success of the Arab Spring. he will update the situation over there as “our man in Cairo.” yasser was born in Nigeria to Iraqi parents in 1964; after spending his early childhood in Lebanon and Iraq, his family moved to the USA in 1972. He received a BA here in French literature from Colby College. He spent 1986-87 in Egypt, Sudan, and Jordan. In 1992, he completed an MA in politics and history at Georgetown University. He left the US in 1992 to live in Jordan and then to Egypt where he has lived since 1994. To support his photography, he has taught writing at the American Univ in Cairo, and prepared refugees for life in the USA through the Intl Organization for Migration. He received the Mother Jones Intl Documentary Photography award in 2001. His work has been shown in group and solo exhibitions in Frankfurt, Cairo, San Francisco, London, Beirut, Paris, and Abu Dhabi.
