Melting World Memorial: Tribute to Mathias Grassow

Airs: 8/31/25 & 9/7/25

German ambient innovator Mathias Grassow, known for his distinct sound built around electronic drone, passed away on August 13, 2025, in a tragic drowning accident. Over a prolific 45 year career, he released an astounding body of work that invites listeners into profound states of introspection.

Though his music had little commercial appeal, its impact on ambient and drone music was undeniable.

This Sunday, our Time Suspended segment will expand into the second half of the show to honor Grassow’s legacy. Part 1 of Melting World will feature collaborations with Klaus Wiese, Alio Die, Marcel Trenton, and Tomas Weiss. The first half of the program will include Krautrock from Electric Orange and Vibravoid, as well as Part 2 of a live psychedelic-electronic set from Eat Static.

Part 2 of Melting World airs on 9/7/25, during our Deep Drift segment, showcasing some of Mathias’s deepest, most immersive compositions—works that transport listeners into alternative states of reality.
