Bluesman Jon Shain with FJ Ventre on string bass

in WUSB's Sunday Street series at The Long Island Museum

Sunday. September 22nd, 5 P.M.

The Sunday Street Series partners with the Long Island Blues Society to present this show.

Jon Shain is a veteran singer-songwriter who’s been turning heads for years with his words, his fiery acoustic guitar work, and his evolved musical style – combining improvised Piedmont blues with bluegrass, swing and ragtime. Shain was the winner, in the solo/duo category, in the 2019 International Blues Challenge in Memphis.

Originally from the Merrimack River mill town of Haverhill, Massachusetts, Shain journeyed to North Carolina where, as a student at Duke University, he learned the Piedmont blues tradition by playing in Big Boy Henry’s backing band. Shain also founded a folk rock group, Flyin’ Mice, playing up and down the East Coast.

Subsequent years saw Shain going solo, returning to his roots in the folk and blues circuit. He has released eight studio albums, working with studio luminaries such as Dave Mattacks and Chris Stamey. Recent years have seen him headlining listening rooms on the east coast, the Midwest, and in Europe. Shain’s newest release is the gorgeous roots album, Tomorrow Will Be Yesterday Soon, recorded with long-time collaborator FJ Ventre, who joins Jon in this show as he plays the upright bass.

Opening is Bob Westcott

Bob has been perfecting his elegant finger-style guitar work for over 30 years. In the 1960's, Bob played the basket houses of Greenwich Village, explored the British folk scene, traveled through Canada and The US in the 70's before settling on eastern Long Island.

Advance sale tickets are $20 at www.sundaystreet.org through Friday, September 20th, with tickets at the door $25
