Custer Observatory Sat., April 24, 8:00 PM CONCERT: MUSIC FOR STARGAZING--STORIES FROM THE GOLDEN AGE OF ROCKETS www.CusterObservatory.org
A live performance of works inspired by the heavens and written by acclaimed Long Island composer, Thomas Mangano, who pays tribute to the quest for cosmic discovery and to the science fiction that helped pioneer space exploration over the past 50 years. Blending a unique sensitivity with finely crafted tones, this music creates adventures in sound that can be captivating, beautiful and deeply mysterious at times. Instruments used: clarinet, synthesizers, acoustic bass and guitars. The music is elemental in nature and draws on many sounds and textures, both natural and electronic, to create "elemental soundscapes." Some of the music presented in this program was composed for video and film productions; other pieces were created especially for Custer and this event. A unique, multimedia experience. Suggested Donation: $10 Members, $13 Non-Members, $5 Students. Refreshments and observing (weather permitting) will follow.
