‘Trophy’ Directors Discuss Big Game Hunting on Tom Needham’s The Sounds of Film

Thursday, August 31, 2017
6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Emmy-nominated ‘Trophy’ directors, Shaul Schwarz and Christina Clusiau, will join Tom Needham this Thursday at 6 P.M. on WUSB’s the Sounds of Film. They will be discussing their controversial film about the relationship between big-game hunting, breeding and wildlife conservation in the United States and Africa.

‘Trophy’ was an official selection at the Sundance Film Festival, and was recently featured in the Hamptons International Film Festival’s Summer Docs Series. The Hamptons’ screening featured a discussion with the filmmakers and Alec Baldwin. The film explores the connection between the decline of endangered African species like rhinos, lions and elephants, and the global desire to hunt these majestic animals. The film features exclusive footage of the world’s largest private rhino breeder in South Africa and a Texas-based trophy hunter. ‘Trophy’ contemplates the positive and negative consequences of putting an economic value on animals.

Shaul Schwartz is an Emmy-nominated filmmaker and award-winning photojournalist. His debut documentary, ‘NARCO CULTURA’, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2013. Shaul has directed content for CNN, the Discovery Channel and the History Channel. Christina Clusiau shot the Emmy-nominated web series, ‘A Year in Space.’ Her feature documentary, ‘Aida’s Secrets’ premiered at the Hot Docs Festival in 2016.
