Chilean Filmmaker Maite Alberdi joins Tom Needham for a conversation about THE MOLE AGENT on Thursday's THE SOUNDS OF FILM. Named one of the Best Documentaries of 2020 by IndieWire and recently announced to be Chile's submission to the 93rd Academy Awards in the category of Best International Film, The Mole Agent follows 83-year-old Sergio Chamy who is sent as an undercover spy to a Chilean retirement home to track suspected elder abuse.

In February, 2019, Joe and Rod played a memorable concert for us in the Sunday Street Series in the Gillespie Room at The Long Island Museum. We planned an encore concert for this February but, due to the COVID-19 situation, we’ll do this as a virtual event. The concert is a free event but viewer donations to the artists will be gratefully accepted.

 

Joe Jencks is a 22-year veteran of the international Folk circuit, an award-winning songwriter and a celebrated vocalist based in the Chicago area. He is known for his performances of musical beauty, social consciousness and spiritual exploration. Joe delivers engaged musical narratives filled with heart, soul, groove, and grit. Blending well-crafted instrumentals and vivid songwriting, Jencks serves it all up with a lyric baritone voice. Co-founder of the harmony trio Brother Sun, Jencks has penned several #1 Folksongs including the ever-relevant Lady of The Harbor. His 2017 solo release ~ Poets, Philosophers, Workers & Wanderers put him at the top of the Folk DJ charts. www.joejencks.com

 

Rod MacDonald began singing professionally in New York City, where he became a headliner in Greenwich Village clubs in the 1980s and recorded 21 songs now in the Smithsonian Folkways collection. He has 13 solo CDs, with 2014’s “Later That Night” making the top ten on national independent music charts, and three CDs with Big Brass Bed, which New Times named “Best Folk Band” in 2016. Now living in south Florida, he’s been named “Best Local Acoustic Artist” by New Times, and one of “Ten Magnificent Musicians of Palm Beach County” by The Palm Beach Post. He is also Music Americana instructor with Osher Lifelong Learning at Florida Atlantic University, and was named Distinguished Faculty Member in 2012. www.rodmacdonald.net

3 Day Winter Reggae Marathon February 4th-7th 2021

 

The 30th Annual Winter Reggae Marathon honoring Bob Marley for Black History month, is proudly hosted by WUSB 90.1 FM Stony Brook.

The kickoff starts early Thursday, February 4th @ 8pm with Bayou/Global Rhythyms with Dj Chris Laporta followed @ 10 pm by No Sound Test with Massapan.

Friday, February 5th, the winter reggae marathon continues with Trim Mix party with Dj Cut Supreme from midnight to 6am followed by Whizzy's Brew featuring T-Man until noon.

Then we'll have Reggaematic Vibes with Tony Stir and Randy until 4pm, followed by Dj Benji, our first Stony Brook Alumni until 7pm when it’s Rockin Iration with Jessie Irie, our second Stony Brook Alumni to finish the night.

Saturday, February 6th is A Party with Lister(the originator of the Reggae Marathon) until Reggae Basketball @ 1:45pm, Go Seawolves !

Kibret and Massapan bring the reggae vibes back until midnight.

Sunday, February 7th continues with Massapan, Tman , and Dj Cut Supreme playing non stop reggae music until Reggae Basketball at 1:45pm, Go Seawolves!

Massapan, Angella and our fine reggae staff will finish the reggae marathon at midnight when Purple Starlight returns WUSB to its regular scheduled programming.
